During our rally visits and presentations, we’re often asked how to best-clean the RV exterior. I truly believe our Gabe’s Pride RV Streaker is the best product on the market. I know that sounds like a sales-pitch, but it’s hard to argue with customer testimonials.

The next question is often “Will it strip off the wax?”

The answer of course is YES, and you want it to. Now, that usually gets a couple looks of surprise. And usually that’s because there’s some confusion about the difference between a wax and a finish. Understandably, most people don’t know the difference or what’s on their rig. So, let’s compare those.

Finish or Wax

The difference between wax and a finish lies in their composition and how they interact with dirt:

• Finish: Usually made with synthetic ingredients, a finish dries hard, which causes dirt to sit on top of the coating rather than penetrating it.  This is why a finish is considered “permanent” and has a higher cost.
• Wax: Typically made with natural ingredients. Wax dries soft. Dirt gets embedded into the soft wax.  This allows it to trap dirt without allowing it to reach the finish. 

The Purpose of a Cleaner

Because of these differences, all effective cleaners are designed to remove a layer of wax. This is the only way to clean the dirt that has become embedded in it. Conversely, a good cleaner should not affect a finish. When applied, it simply removes the surface dirt without damaging or striping the finish layer. 

What Makes a Good Cleaner?

Among the obvious answers is, ease of use. Gabe’s Pride RV Streaker hit the market in 2020. Since then, we’ve performed minor changes to the formulation to continue to produce the best and most effective cleaning for RVs. The chemical action we’ve designed into this product includes hundreds of hours of on-site testing at our facility in Rochester, NY. Our goal is producing an exterior cleaning product that breaks the chemical bonds on dirt, iguana-crap (no kidding), grime and dried bugs on all the exterior surfaces while still being safe for surfaces, people, pets and mother earth. 

Along with the product is our patented Foaming Cannon Cleaning Kit. This set of tools fits easily onto your garden hose. With minimal effort, your RV will be sparkling clean!

Year-after-year, RV Streaker continues to gain in our market and we couldn’t be more proud. But there’s another metric that makes us equally happy.

Good Planning

A good cleaner starts with safe and high quality raw materials. At Gabe’s Pride, we develop our cleaning materials to a performance point, not price point. This allows RV Streaker to rinse film free while removing dirt, grime, and bugs on all the exterior surfaces. With a good cleaner, aggressive tools are not needed, nor is elbow grease. A little bit of cleaner goes a long way. The better the cleaner, the less you use, the less time it takes to get a better clean and the less energy you have to use. Our microfiber pad is all you need for the roof and our lambswool pad is all you need for the cap and sides. This includes bug and streak removal. A good cleaner should allow your tools, including pads, to be rinsed clean with water. A good cleaner does the work for you at the stated dilution ratio. One cleaner with one application. That is all you need with a cleaner that’s safe for all the surfaces. This includes sticks & bricks, vehicles, decks & patios, walkways and much more. All this AND it’s biodegradable, recyclable, eco-friendly, and safe for people, pets and mother earth. THAT'S "good planning"!

So then, what makes a subpar cleaner?

• In our opinion, characteristics of a subpar cleaner include a cleaner that:
• Leaves a film
• Leaves you thinking you need more aggressive tools
• You can’t use on every exterior surface because it will harm one of them
• You have to wash your tools when you’re done. 

That last one is my "favorite". Why? Because your cleaning tools are full of the cleaner you used. Of course you'll thoroughly rinse them before putting your tools away. But why should you use another cleaner to clean them? That sounds a little crazy to me.

Respectfully, if your elbows hurt or are tired when you’re done, it’s a subpar cleaner. If you’re scrubbing, you’re cleaner is not working, you are. Read the label. If it contains bad or dangerous chemicals, there are safer and better options.  If you’re using a concentrated cleaner at a stronger dilution than recommended or at full strength, it’s not a good cleaner. If it strips the wax off, it’s too harsh of a cleaner.

Sustainability

Unlike our big-box competition, this word does NOT mean making a huge profit from one year to the next. What it DOES mean is taking care of our environment. RV Streaker is Eco-Friendly. That means it has almost no impact on the environment. We wash our RV regularly. There is no “die-off” in the grass or landscaping at our home. And we see the same results during a rally. 

The next time we’re out doing a demonstration, check us on that! Look at the rigs and the lots around them. That grass might show foot traffic, but anything that RV Streaker lands on isn’t suffering from the product.
