Make Cleaning Easier and Eco-Friendly

Most of us prefer a “clean environment”. Not “sterile”, but clean. I’m happy to say that Gabe’s Pride products are a smart and economical choice for what that can truly mean in our homes and RVs. Because when we clean, we have to consider a few things:

  • The Soil (what do we want removed)
  • The Surface (what is that soil on)
  • The Residue (what is left behind)

Cleaning Defined

The simplest definition of cleaning is:

The process of removing unwanted substances, such as dirt, dust, and other impurities, from an object or environment.

Bathroom Cleaners

By definition, a bathroom cleaner means any product used to clean hard surfaces in a bathroom, such as counters, walls, floors, fixtures, basins, tubs and tiles. Now you might be thinking, “Thanks Captain Obvious. Can you tell me anything else I already know?”

YES! 🙂

Remember #1 of our three things above “The Soil”

Those descriptions tell you the surface you’re cleaning, not the soil. Are the hard water deposits on the shower or the sink. One might react differently to your cleaning solution. So knowing both the soil and the surface is important. Otherwise you might damage the surface while cleaning.

Cleaning Soap Scum

Bathrooms are the environment that most people wrestle to clean. The biggest challenge is soap scum. Soap scum can be difficult because of the way it traps bodily dirt and clings to surfaces. We’ve spoken with RV and home-owners who’ve practically worn out their elbows trying to muscle-off soap scum. And while you can make that work, there’s a much easier and safer way to clean.

Science & Soap Scum  (AKA “Glue”)

When your body soap or shampoo are worked into a lather, it suspends the dirt and oils from your skin and hair. As you shower or wash your hands, it's common to have some remaining residue on the shower or sink. That soap, dirt, minerals in the water and fatty acids from our skin begin to dry and become chemically bonded. Yes, it’s like glue. Together, these components become a tough, rubbery, film that sticks firmly to surfaces in the bathroom. Add time and layers and you have a true cleaning challenge!

Opposites Attract

If you have glass shower doors, you might be using glass cleaner. The reason that it doesn't work is found in chemistry.

Soap Scum (Alkaline) + Glass Cleaner (Alkaline) = Cleaning Fail

Remember, we’re cleaning according to the soil (dirt), not the surface. That means glass shower doors need a bathroom cleaner that cleans soap scum, not a glass cleaner. Shower walls need a cleaner that cleans soap scum, not acrylic or fiberglass. But you ALSO need a cleaner that won’t damage those surfaces.

The answer is found in Gabe’s Pride Products!

Soap Scum = Alkaline

Gabe’s Pride Bathroom Cleaner = Acidic

Cleaning SUCCESS

Soap Scum (Alkaline) + Gabe's Pride Bathroom Cleaner (Acidic) = Cleaning SUCCESS

Save the Elbow Grease

Using Gabe’s Pride Bathroom Cleaner avoids the need to use aggressive tools like scrub brushes or a magic eraser®.  These can scratch the surface over time, creating other issues. Also, coating glass doors and shower walls with coatings while thinking it’s solving the soap scum problem is just kicking the can down the road. Those are simply work-arounds. Coatings can yellow and be hard to remove. And many of those products are made (and sold) for outdoor use. I won’t begin to think about what can be trapped inside your living spaces.

The Environment

In this blog we focused on the soil and the surface. In a future blog, we’ll cover the environment. That topic includes:

  • The bathroom
  • Your living spaces in general
  • And our very own “Mother Earth”

Environmentally Friendly

At Gabe’s Pride, we don’t believe in work arounds, we believe in solving the problem and our bathroom cleaner does just that. It solves the problem while still being safe, eco-friendly & biodegradable. It cleans easily and with minimal effort and no aggressive tools. A little bit goes a long way which is also a cost savings. That’s how my dad did it and how we’ve continued to innovate. We produce cleaning products that perform at the safest levels and best cleaning performance. Contact us here with any questions or check out our products here. We look forward to hearing from you!

We’re thankful for our regular customers! And we appreciate the questions and specific cleaning challenges you bring us at Gabe’s Pride. While we ARE RV and home cleaning experts, gray tanks require a particular knack. That’s why we reached out to the team at Kleen Tank . We urge you to keep in mind that cleaning your gray tank demands time, care and most of all, safety. Why Does the Gray Tank Stink? Believe it or not, gray tanks can have worse odors and be more of a health risk than black tanks – especially galley grays. While black tanks are collecting urine, feces, water, cleaning materials and whatever didn’t “agree with you” last night, gray tanks get everything else. Laundry, Dishes & Heat. Oh My! Germs, bacteria and mold. All three are living things and all three require something from their environment to thrive. Those are: Food Water Heat Shelter Unfortunately, we can find all of those in your RV’s gray tank. Food particles and a warm, moist environment inside your gray tank make this a perfect breeding ground for germs, bacteria and mold. Most people don’t think about Mold As we discussed in a previous blog, when cleaning your black , the most important ingredient is water! Mold can be trouble enough on its own. However, when mold gets dried out, it can become airborne. Once inhaled, mold can wreak all manner of havoc on your health . Headaches, congestion, cough, and many other symptoms are associated with exposure to mold spores. So what do you do? Because gray tanks generally don’t come with an on-board sprayer, using a reverse flush device is the best way for an RV owner to get extra water into that tank to help flush out food particulates. You may also consider using a water meter to prevent tank overflow. It's important to test the water meter before each use to make sure it's working correctly. To use or not to use an additive. Tank cleaning companies such as Kleen Tank do recommend using additives for cleaning your gray tank. Traditionally they use a Calgon base solution. This is used to coat the sides and prevent waste from sticking. The Kleen Tank team says “use plenty of water” to keep things liquid and moving both before and during the cleaning process. Should you choose to use a tank treatment product, consistency is important. Product formulations may be similar but are not identical. For this reason, frequently changing these may create a chemical reaction. Be careful and always read the instructions and use the product accordingly.
